Sometimes the Movie is better than the book

Two of my favorite movies are Wives and Daughters and North and South .  They are both written by Elizabeth Gaskell.  I love the development of the characters and the story lines.  I think I love them more than Pride and Prejudice actually.  I know that often books end differently than movies, so I wanted to read the book endings.

I did.

And I didn't like them!

Ms. Gaskell actually passed away before she finished Wives and Daughters.  I think the BBC did a great job coming up with a great ending.  The book ends before the story ends.  As for North and South, Margaret is such a different sort of character in the book than in the movie!  She's so much more froofy and fluffy in the book.  She is also much more inconstant and caught up in society.  This is not how she is portrayed in the movie.  In the BBC version of North and South, the characters are consistent in character and believable to me.  They do leave out details that change the story and would make it less connected.

The only thing I can conclude is that once in a while the movie is better than the book.

Why is it that my generation (I belong to Gen X) and generations after us always seem to think that they know more than the generations that have come before us? Missing Pieces

The other day I was discussing a book with my mom and explaining to her my concern about how "blame" is cast upon the child in the story.  My mom commented about how deeply I read and consider what is written. Sometimes I wonder if I go overboard.  Am I questioning too much?  Am I overreacting? Why am I reacting this way? ESV, NIV, or NASB and then there's the ICB, ESV or NIrV...which should we read?

I am so thankful for my friend's question about the ESV vs. NASB and NIV. I couldn't remember the difference so I went to look it up. I knew that John Piper and Tim Keller, both pastors and authors that I deeply respect have switched over to the ESV. All of the churches that we have attended over the past few years PCA or Reformed Baptist have also switched to the ESV. The NKJV, from what I understand, is a revision of the KJV that uses more modern language. Most churches I have attended used the NIV until the ESV came out.
