It's a strange thing to admit, but when I got married 10 years ago, I was what you would call an evangelical feminist.  I believed men and women were equal and I hadn't given much thought to the scriptures that said wives were to submit to their husbands.   Then I got married.  My husband told me later that he knew there were some things that needed to work themselves out in how I viewed marriage.  Only a few months into our marriage, the Lord began convicting me about submission.  I had to learn what it meant.   Galatians 5:22-24 NIV 22   Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord.   23   For the husband is the h ead of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior.   24   Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything. Though I've read a lot of books over the past two years (probably more than I'd read in the previous 10 years), some of my favorites are still the old ones.  One of them came to my mind this morning, and I think I'm going to go read it again.  Here are a few that have really encouraged me... Great Women Authors: Their Lives and Their Literature  by Betty Carlson and Jane Stuart Smith This book is a collection of short biographies of women writers.  This was one of the first books that made me realize how interesting biographies can be.  The chapters are short and easy to read.  The two women who wrote the book are/were residents at l'Abri fellowship.  They are thinkers, but this book isn't intellectual.  I thought it was well written when I read it.  You can see a preview of it on Amazon if you're interested.
